A Visit with our "Greats"

Joel had to go up to the lake with his dad to put in the lift for the jet ski, so the kids and I headed to see Great-Grandma Young for the day.  I drove them by Grandpa Beanie and Grandma Mick's former property.  I always thought it was the prettiest setting for a house--way up on a hill with giant trees on the front of the hill and a pond at the bottom of the other side of the hill.  Unfortunately the house burned down a few years ago, but I was pleased to see it's been replaced by a beautiful ranch.
When we got to Great-Grandma Young's house, she was excited to show us the new kittens that had just been born a few days earlier.  Apparently she had been feeding a stray cat and realized it was going to have kittens.  So she borrowed a dog house from my cousin and lined it with new straw just in time!
They were so tiny!
Reese was in love!

I told Grandma that we were going to do a selfie.  :)

We had a wonderful visit as always!

Later that evening, we went to visit our other great-grandma, Grandma Sheets.  How lucky are these kids?!
We enjoyed our time with Great-Grandma Sheets as well.
One might say it was a "GREAT" day!

April Update 2016

The month of April was filled with many great moments:
Our school went all out with Teacher Appreciation Week.  My room moms made this sign outside my door that went along with the red carpet/Hollywood theme.
We had a food truck with grilled pizzas.  So delicious!
Students were encouraged to bring in one flower each to fill a vase for each teacher.
And the main hallway was just darling!

One of Ryan's coaches pulled him aside and taught him how to pitch.  Ryan spent a lot of time with his dad, practicing in the cul-de-sac

 Reid participated in Mini-Cardinals soccer.

 Clare celebrated her First Communion.

We celebrated Grandpa Stan's birthday.  Reid wore this Cardinals shirt and hat that he got from Grandpa Stan on HIS birthday.
Reid built a fort under the dining room table and wanted to sleep there overnight.  I had to take a picture of him before I went to bed.
 Being 6 is hard.
We tackled an eyesore on the side of our house.  We've been wanting to get rid of these rotting railroad ties since we moved in three years ago.  It was tough work, but we took them out and leveled out the dirt.  Then we planted new shrubs and put down new mulch.  I think it was an improvement for sure.

I had to capture this moment when the boys wrote on the driveway: Brothers 4 Ever.
Reid had an EKG to check on his heart murmur, so he and I took a morning off from school.  We had time afterwards, so we stopped by Holly's house to hang out for a bit.  While we were there, Reid and Kate played hide-and-seek.  I could not stop laughing when Kate chose her hiding spot.  I just love toddlers!

Reid wanted to take a selfie with Kate.  Hilarious!

He missed lunch, so we stopped by Mark Pi's to get a lunch to split.  He and I enjoyed lunch in my classroom before he went out to recess.  We don't do that as often as we should!
My students were given saplings from the DNR of tulip trees, and I told them I had giant ones in my back yard.  To give them an idea of how big they were, I had Reid stand in front of them.  I couldn't even get him and the tops of the trees in the frame!

Joel went downtown to see the filming of "American Ninja Warrior." We would have loved to have taken the kids, but they didn't even start until after 9.  Since this was at the end of April, a few IndyCar racers were in town and tried the course.  Above is a picture of IndyCar racer, Tony Kanaan.

Ryan went on the 4th grade field trip to the Indiana Dunes.  From the left: Will G., Ryan, William, and Will.

Reese and her friend, Emily, tried lacrosse for the first (and maybe last) time.

April was a busy month!

Opening Day at Skiles Test

Ryan started his second year of baseball at Skiles Test.  We were there early in the morning for the Opening Day ceremony, then Ryan had his first game of the season later on.

Meanwhile Reid enjoyed hanging around on the playground.

Let's go, Nationals!
