Easter Day
The kids woke up on Easter morning and immediately went searching for their Easter baskets.
Reese and Ryan with their loot from the Easter Bunny.
Reid checking out his basket. He got a sippy cup and a book we can fill with pictures of his family...or maybe people he would prefer to have in his family. ;)
After church we came home and enjoyed the gorgeous weather outside.
I couldn't resist taking pictures of my little guy!
He just loved this little egg!
He was only 4 days old last year on Easter. What a big boy now!
This was truly an Easter miracle--Reese actually put her arm around her brother and hugged him without being told, coerced, or bribed!
I love both of these pictures...

Easter Weekend in Ft. Wayne
It seems like forever since we've been to Ft. Wayne for an overnight stay, so we took off Friday afternoon since I had the day off. We first went to see my Grandma Young, Aunt Nancy, and a few of my cousins. I wish I would've unpacked my camera for our visit as I would've loved to have taken a few pictures. Reid quickly warmed up to everyone and had a ball walking around and exploring Nancy's house. We really enjoyed seeing everyone!
We left around dinnertime and headed to Joel's parents' house. After a nice dinner, we put the kids to bed and then spent the rest of the night playing cards.
The next day the kids were very excited to participate in helping prepare for Easter. (I might add this is probably because the activities involved food.) First they baked Easter basket cupcakes.
While the cupcakes were baking, they got started on dyeing eggs. Would you believe I have never before done this with the kids?
It was actually so much fun--I kept asking, "Why have we never done this with the kids?"
The kids were so "egg"cited to decorate the eggs. :)
Joel and I even got a chance to decorate eggs and realized we're both very competitive when it comes to decorating eggs...pumpkins...canvases...cakes...you name it! :)
Once the eggs were dyed and decorated, it was time to decorate the cupcakes. It was a family affair with everyone sharing their artistic abilities.
Reese, Ryan, and Grandma Marsh checking out some of the animals.

Later that afternoon, we headed to the Ft. Wayne Children's Zoo. I almost didn't take my camera, but threw it in at the last minute.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail...
Last week Kelly invited us to a local church for an Easter egg hunt and various Easter crafts and activities. We didn't have anything going on that morning--except a 15-mile run for Joel!--so we were happy to hop on over to join them!
The kids first enjoyed doing a bunny hop sack race in the gym.

Reid's 1-Year Check-up
Here are his stats:
- Head: 47 cm (69%)
- Height: 29 inches (26%)
- Weight: 20 lb 2 oz (13%)
I told her that Reid does not have any true words right now, but she reminded me that boys are not as verbal as girls. I know I shouldn't compare him to Reese, who started talking in utero. :)
It was at this appointment when we discovered Reid had a double-ear infection. It only took a couple of days on the antibiotic to notice him sleeping in a little bit more in the morning. Hopefully that's a good sign that he's feeling better!
We'll go back in another week to have his ears checked as well as to get his immunizations. So happy to report he's a healthy, growing little boy!

Ten on Tuesday
I'm not sure if I'll come up with ten things, but we'll give it a shot:
1. We're in the "final countdown" at school. I think we have about 8 weeks left until summer break. This has been a challenging year with more responsibilities at school and less planning time during the day, but I've survived! With that being said, though, I'm ready for a break!
2. Ryan just had his Kindergarten screening yesterday at school. Ryan said they asked him to count to 20 and he said, "I can count to 200!" No one likes a show-off, Ryan. :) He is ready, though, as he is now checking out books at the library and trying to read them on his own.
3. One of the teachers told me Ryan asked if he'd be starting Kindergarten "tomorrow or the next day?" Guess he feels he's ready! She told him to go home and find "August" on the calendar as that's when he would begin. :)
4. With all of the wonderful learning Ryan is doing, sometimes he says things that make me scratch my head. When we were getting ready to leave Jen and Jeremy's house in Cleveland, Ryan was telling Leah that she should come to his house sometime. He then asked, "Mom, which is longer? Driving from our house to Cleveland or Cleveland to our house?" I told him it was the same both ways, and I think I rocked his world with that info.
5. My Lenten sacrifice this year was to give up Facebook, and Joel gave up chocolate...which means we are two, grumpy out-of-touch people at our house. ;) I have been asked so many times about if giving up FB has been hard. I will admit the first two weeks were really, really hard. I love FB because I can just check in on people and see what's going on with them. However, lately FB had been giving me a little bit of anxiety, so it was nice to take a little break from it. I'm probably going to limit my time on the site when Lent is over...Well, at least for a few days. Ha, ha!
6. Speaking of Lenten sacrifices, our kids really wanted to give up something this year. Ryan said he was going to give up candy, and Reese gave up "Tom and Jerry." Ryan told me a few days after Ash Wednesday that someone had brought in candy for a snack, but he couldn't have any because he "gave it up for Lent." I have to point out he was telling me this while popping Smarties into his mouth, one after another. When I pointed out that Smarties are a candy he said, "No, they're not--they're a treat!"
7. Speaking of treats, we went to an Easter egg hunt this weekend with Kelly and her girls. Reese and Ryan ended up spending the night with my parents that night, so they got to have a treat out of one of their eggs after dinner. Ryan immediately said his tummy was hurting, so sat on my mom's lap for a little bit. Pretty soon he started coughing and vomited repeatedly about 4-5 times--all over himself, my mom, and the chair. I think they were both stunned! It turns out he had a few malted milk balls--which contain wheat in them. The good news is he didn't have an anaphylactic reaction--which is what we typically think happens with wheat. This was just like his reaction he had after eating the brownie after the food allergy walk last August. The bad news was he and my mom had to deal with the mess! Thanks to my parents for taking such good care of him. In the future, we will make sure we check his candy immediately.
8. We do have two other kids, even if I haven't mentioned them in this post. That's kind of the way it works sometimes, isn't it? Sometimes one kid just keeps giving you the material you need to work with... :)
9. Reese is a little bookworm. Every time I turn around, she has her head stuck in a book. She loves the Magic Tree House, American Girl, and Puppy Place series books. I just bought the Little House on the Prairie series and hopes she likes them as much as I did!
10. Reid is just a ball of fun! He is learning how to walk and can now take about 6-8 steps in a row. He gets so proud of himself and will squeal in delight when he's done. It won't be long until he's walking all over!

Reid's First Birthday Party
We celebrated Reid's first birthday with family and friends last Saturday. Aunt Kelly was a HUGE help, designing the above invitation and helping with many of the decorations. Poor Reid was a little out of sorts at his party. At first I thought he was overwhelmed with all of the people there, but then I realized he was tired. So after a little nap, he joined us again for presents and cake.
Even though Reid wasn't feeling his best that day--(I later found out he had a double ear infection)--it was such a wonderful day. I was so glad that our family and friends could come together to celebrate Reid's first year. Two years ago I never would've thought we'd ever be having a first birthday party again, and there is just something so precious about it. I am definitely trying to savor all of these milestones with him.
